How can farmers grow healthy crops with limited water? How can they monitor large farms, care for animals and transport produce safely? Step into the world of modern agriculture and discover how science, engineering, robotics and smart technology are helping farmers solve real-world challenges. Students will explore how modern farms use soil and water management, smart irrigation, sensors, automated lighting, robots and other intelligent systems to improve farming efficiency and sustainability. They will then become Junior Smart Farming Engineers, designing and building their own LEGO future farm with creative solutions for growing crops, caring for animals and managing farm operations. Through age-appropriate hands-on activities, younger students will investigate how water moves through different types of soil and consider how farmers can manage soil and irrigation more effectively. Year 4–6 students will use a Micro:bit agriculture kit to program a simple automated lighting system that responds to the needs of growing plants. The adventure continues as students design and build their own Royal Show farm exhibition area, complete with pathways, bridges, farm displays and obstacles. They will explore how robots and automated vehicles could support future farms by moving food, farm produce, equipment and model animals safely from the farm to the Royal Show. Younger students will complete the transport mission through hands-on vehicle control, while older students will plan routes and program their robots to complete an automated delivery challenge. A full day of LEGO building, science experiments, coding, robotics, engineering design and creative problem-solving—where Royal Show fun meets the future of farming!
